The Green Man

The green man lurks in the shadows of your mind and in the moving darkness of the night. He beckons from the waving trees on the edge of a blackness and calls your fears to come forward. Who is he that curls icy fingers on the neck and shortens the breath? Why does he stalk the living soul who dares to walk with a light at night?

He is the unseen presence in life. Locked out by our fears and phobias and condemned to wander on the edge of our vision, he makes his shadowy presence felt when we go near the edge of nature’s timeless fringe.

What do you fear from the Green Man? What does the Green Man need from you that he will come near but not too close? What does the Green Man fear in you?

Perhaps his stalking presence is a reflection of deep fears from within your own being that cannot be faced directly. Perhaps he is that yearning for natural freedom that you have been denied - or you deny yourself.

The Green Man is not allowed near. He is love of nature and love of life excommunicated and condemned to wander amongst the trees of the deep forest. He is shunned and not confronted but he cannot keep away because he is part of your being.

If you were to pause and call to him and walk with him hand in hand as far as the cross roads, how would you feel? Would the look in his eyes melt your heart or freeze your soul?

Walk with him to the cross roads and then if you will, embrace him - or turn and run away.
